2/22 4H Meeting Day

The President's Day speech was postponed last week due to the additional 9 inches of snow received.  The make up speech was today, but we had already committed to being at the 4H meeting.

After all the 'business' we had "walking tacos" and made marshmellow snowmen.

2/21 Family Day

We were finally able to go out for our Anniversary, Valentines, Birthday Dinner (Lunch).  We went up to Marion and spent lots of time in Menards (pronouced May-nards) and then lunch at Red Lobster!  YUM!

2/20 PineCar Derby

Zachary was awarded the "Christian Sportsmanship Award" for the 3rd time.  He has a tender heart for everyone and cheers for them all.  His Dad and I know that his Christian attitude is much more important than wherever his car places.

Only the boys (one for each group) that received the award got a prize from Pastor Bernie's bag.  Zachary choice: A neat boy's Bible with holograms on the cover.

AND...we 'entertained!'  Friends from quizzing who are moving to a farm in the next few weeks came out for dinner and chatting about the things to do.

Our Local Eatery....Enchaliditoes.  Where you can get Mexican food, Chinese Food, Hamburgers, on Saturdays sing Karoke or if you drive around back you can pick up beer through the the drive through.

Mrs Troutner said some really nice things about Z as he got his awards including that he was the most improved quizzer.  He received a bronze metal for memorizing 48 verses out of 174.

February 6th SNOW

So we have about 16 inches of snow here on the farm.....Drifts about 2 feet in front of the barn / coop doors.  I'm going to share more than one picture today.

 Now that the storm is over, blue skies are back!

February 3rd - Back into Production

The girls are seriously laying again...10-18 a day...here is 1 weeks worth of production.

February 1st & 2nd - Sleep Study

Zachary had to spend tonight at Childrens hospital until 6:30 pm tomorrow doing a sleep study to figure out why we are having some health issues that I'm not going to go into here.

There were a few days that I missed last month, but with February being shorter, maybe I can get all of these.  I will be more diligent in posting them, but in the meantime, tonight I posted quite a few (and need to add pictures to some as they are on another card that I don't have with me) so you will need to hit the older posts to see them all.  HAPPY FEBRUARY!

Last Quizzing Practice.

Today was Zachary's last Bible Quizzing Practice.  Next week will be the final rally.  He has memorized 48 verses (though the references still trip him up) and knows 8 chapters of the Bible inside and out.  It has been a struggle as memorization is not his strong suite.  He knows it better than he realizes and it always amazes me that he can just pull the verses from memory with only the first 3 words.

He knows Acts 17, Acts 26, and all of James (Chapters 1-5).

Laundry and Naptime!

Today was a "Home day" of Lots of Laundry and even better NAPS!!

Sam's Birthday

Sam's birthday was actually on Monday, but as he just returned from the hospital on Sunday night, he was not up to much on the actual day.  So they had a PJ party at the church.  There was a big screen showing of "The Lion King" with popcorn, hotdogs and cake.  Characters from Star Wars showed up as did Snow White.

Sam and Zachary have been friends since they were 18 months old.

Woodworker's appreciation @ Keim Lumber

We were really blessed to be asked to attend the woodworker's appreciation night at Keim Lumber in Charm, Ohio (Amish country)  This is where we get our wood from.  There were about 2000 attendees and about 100 of us were English.  Zachary got to spend the day with the Aulgers!!

Kristl loves to take naps.  She is willing to go upstairs with anyone that says "Let's go to bed."  Then when it is bedtime....she waits...patiently...sometimes not so patiently on the stairs for someone to come up.

Sunshine!  Unbelievably, as a terrible cold front moved in and dropped the temperatures into the teens....we got the first glimpses of blue skies and sun this year.

Amish CHEESE

Scott made a delivery of a bed to Amish country today.  (Our friend Bruce went along).  They stopped at our favorite cheese store and brought home Baby Swiss, Pepper Jack, and Colby!  YUM!

UGG...mud

This is what we have to look forward to this spring....MUD everywhere.  I managed to get my car stuck twice.  And I have a second picture today....the second is how many times I had to go back and forth to get out from in front of the shop (Man filled my low tire).  ARG!

SEEDS!

The first order of seeds have come in.  These are all from Baker's Heirloom Seeds.  I have two other orders in.  The garden is going to be about an acre.  Already the main garden has been plowed up (that was done in the fall), but I've been eyeing another two areas.  One for sweet corn and pumpkins, and the other for potatoes.

4-H

Today was the first 4H meeting.  It was at the pool down the road from us.  Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, and I can't figure out how to get the pictures off of my phone.  If I figure it out I will post it.

Scrapbook Saturday!

Today was a really fun day!  Scott and Bruce went to the Woodworker's Show with Pastor Jeff and his son DJ.

Bruce's wife, Kerry came over to scrapbook.  Hannah (Zach's 'future wife') and her sister, Rebecca (and her friend, Emily) came as well.

Kerry and I each got 4 pages done...and tons of chatting.  Then the whole Aulger family stayed for supper.

Today was a stock up day.  In our quest for preparedness, I did a major grocery shop at Aldi's, Sam's Club and Kroger.  Here's one of the stacks waiting to be put in the pantry.

Man also is getting ready, and got a generator today as well.

1/12-13/10

It's always my goal to get the tree down on the 12th of January.  I started on the 12th, and ended up finishing up on the 13th.

1/10/2009 FROST!

I didn't get many (OK, I only got one) of the beautiful frost all over the farm this morning.  It looked as though it had snowed, but it was frost growing up from the branches.

And BOY, it was COLD!

The babies are bigger

And smellier!!!  So they have been moved as of today to the cellar....Here they are in their new home.

21 projects

Our snowy farmstead.  It's bitterly cold and I am making 3 treks daily to the hen house (grey building in picture) and the big barn to make sure our animals have water to drink.  It's going to snow again tonight.  I love the peaceful look of everything covered with fresh snow....btw, did you know that chickens do not like walking on snow....I wouldn't want to either if I were barefooted!

New Additions to the homestead family!!

Robbie the Rabbit is the basis of our rabbit breeding program.  He will also be part of Boy's 4H project.
